thanku4urloveChapter 3! The drama!! The Valentine's Day episode is one of my favorite 17TV episodes, so this chapter was really fun to write. Though most of this note is just gonna be "17TV Chronicles" so strap in for that, I guess. There's a lot to talk about.
But first, I have a confession to make. Dear reader, I have lied to you. This chapter starts off in episode 7 of 17TV, where Mingyu hugs Jihoon (one of the more iconic predebut jigyu hugs) and holds his hands while Seokmin sings a love song at them. All of that is true. But I also said that Mingyu backhugs Jihoon (true) and that Jihoon tickles him. That is not true. Jihoon... Well, it might have tickled, but Jihoon actually grabs Mingyu's dick. Mingyu does giggle and hug him about it, and Jihoon is so distracted while doing it that he does have to ask Seungkwan to repeat himself, but... yeah. I changed it because trying to describe that felt out of place with everything else, but we can officially move Jihoon up onto the dick-grabbing list next to Jeonghan.
And then Jihoon is at a NU'EST fanmeet! I do not know why he's there or what he's doing lol but it's cute!! I've found two fancams of him (this fancam is longer, and this one is shorter but you can see him better in it). They perform Nothin On You and Jihoon sings Bruno Mars's part, which is fun I guess.
And then Valentine's Day! The episode is fully on the official SVT channel (part 1, part 2) and geez Jihoon is SO clingy. Like sure, Mingyu hugs him first, but Jihoon just will not let Mingyu go. (the links have cuts directly to the parts of the episode I'm mentioning, but that last one is started a little early to show a bit where Jihoon is giggling at and hugging Seungkwan because it's just CUTE). They sing and dance to NU'EST's Hello on repeat for like an hour, and this song was my JAM when it came out so while I do fully understand and support it, it's kind of hilarious for them to be doing this on Valentine's Day when considering the song's lyrics.
And then Seungcheol very dramatically quits. Seungcheol talks about quitting in this VLive X Dispatch interview (it's the same interview where the iconic "To me, the members are more important than the company is" line comes from, though it's split into two parts on youtube so it's in part two, rip @ vlive) and like with Soonyoung and his family's money problems in chapter 1, the way Seungcheol talks about this incident makes it seem like it happened closer to debut. But, like with Soonyoung's situation, there was already so much happening closer to debut (and specifically, other drama between Jihoon and Seungcheol was already happening) so I moved it here instead and used it as a catalyst to get Seungcheol officially into Seventeen instead. (I completely made up the hat thing, but there's a fun secret twist about the hat thing that comes up later, so I'll talk about that in the notes for the later chapter lol)
Here's a link to the trampoline cuddling in the 17TV episode, if anyone's interested in seeing it. The video itself is a whole 6 and a half minutes, though there is a cut in the middle of it, so I have no idea how long they were actually like this. This clip also includes Jihoon snuggling with Samuel, and Jihoon's so sweet with him, it's really cute. I know I probably don't need to keep linking specific moments to get people to believe me, but it also feels ludicrous to say something like "Woozi put himself in Mingyu's lap and snuggled there for likely 20+ minutes while in full view of everyone and also on camera" without providing evidence to back it up, so you're going to just have to bear with me in these notes. Also Mingyu seeing that Jihoon was uncomfortable at the start of the video and just immediately sliding in to give him a comfy place to rest is just ridiculous. These two are ridiculous. Sometimes I wonder why I decided to make this such a slow burn when I clearly could have said that they're just dating now and things would have been fine because like... look at the material.
SPEAKING OF LOOK AT THE MATERIAL. Mingyu does fully try to kiss Jihoon at the end of 17TV episode 13 (the part with the paint). He ducks his head and you can hear him say "kiss" at 26:30 and it takes a few seconds for the moment to actually turn into a joke. I feel like I'm gonna lose my mind.
I skip over it in the fic (because believe it or not, I am not adding every jigyu moment I see into this 390k word fic lmao) but the hug at the end of 17TV season 1's final episode is maybe the most popular/recognized predebut jigyu media, because it's gone viral on twitter a handful of times. It's that bit where Jihoon asks for a hug in a baby voice and Mingyu steps up to give it to him, and then they fully cling to each other for the rest of the episode. And I get why!! It showcases Lee "I am feel uncomfortable when we are not about me?" Jihoon when it comes to Mingyu's attention, Mingyu Privilege when it comes to touching Jihoon (Hansol gets nervous and tries to stop Mingyu at first because he sees Jihoon as a scary hyung, which Mingyu is very confused by lol), and ends with a classic Mingyu-bending-down-to-Jihoon's-height-and-holding-his hand-while-laughing moment. Poetic cinema.
The Good Morning 17 videos used to advertise 17TV season 2 really are pretty cute. You can watch them here in their original quality (ep 1, ep 2) or here with english subs but in worse quality (ep 1, ep 2) so pick your poison. There weren't enough mattresses for everyone so Hansol and Samuel slept together on the same one, and Mingyu's bed is the only one that has actual sheets on it. A mess!
I can only find the guerilla episode in little clips, so here's the part where they debut their theme song for the first time, and here's the part where Jihoon and Mingyu both talk about the piggyback rides (with subs!). This is also that episode that Hansol very dramatically puts Jihoon on blast for not ever having a girlfriend (and not even friends that are girls) and it's kind of hilarious.
And then Music Friends starts! To me, Music Friends is an absolutely wild (and potentially dangerous?) idea, so I kinda couldn't believe it when I found out about it. I got most of my information about it from this wiki page, as well as the, you know, various episodes throughout the season. This one is really good: it's a highlight video that someone put together and subtitled, and it has things like who some of the Music Friends are and the different teams and stuff. I do mention a few little details about some of them that I catch in episodes, but it's kind of on the same level as how I treated Yoosang and Youngwon because again, as far as I know, none of these people are public figures. It's safe to assume that most of what I say about them is made up. (Shinhye does have a nice singing voice though.)
(Again, for anyone interested, here's ep 2 of Music Friends, ep 3 where they get scolded, and a clip of the moment that Jihoon kind of mentions of he and Soonyoung reprimanding SVT and asking them to focus and work harder, because it happened in a 17TV episode so we do have it on camera.)
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST. JOSHUA HONG. There are probably some Joshushushus out there that actually know what went on, but I have to admit that I'm a bit confused about the timeline when it comes to Joshua joining Pledis, mostly because Josh and Jeonghan say that they joined at the same time, but it's currently April and Jeonghan doesn't join SVT until June so... I don't know. Training stuff that we don't see, I guess? They prank Josh on his first day on 17TV (here it is with english subs) and like... it feels kinda mean and is a bit hard to watch, ngl. And then there's the practice room lock-in episode, which is a doozy.
Here's the partner picking process (with subs) and it's a lot. It's absolute nonsense. Wonwoo is embarrassing, Soonyoung is VERY gay, Samuel is cute, I honestly skipped Seokmin's bc of how bad the audio is, and Jihoon and Mingyu are just. shameless. (the Jihoon dancing for Mingyu part starts at 11:51, and they go "oooooh" because he drags Mingyu forwards by the hand, and its kind of a sexy song that Jihoon dances to and??? i hate it here i really do). Here's the paper kiss game (with subs) and it's also ridiculous. Hansol complains bc Seokmin bit his lip, which is deemed "not a proper action due to the nature of our show."??? And here's the last part of the episode (with subs!) where they swap pajamas and set up the tents. It's honestly a wonder that Joshua stayed LMAO
And that's Chapter 3!! As I said on twitter a few days ago, the first draft of the fic is now done!! Completely done!! While there's some editing that I need to do, I sincerely doubt that I'll be adding/removing big scenes, so I'll work on setting all of the chapter breaks over the weekend (I only have the first 19 of them set right now) and hopefully soon that ? will turn into an actual chapter number! I'm thinking it'll be ~30 chapters total. Which... man these chapters are long, huh?
