ALTWSS Chapter 5: Sources + Links
Apr. 28th, 2023 01:06 pmHello and happy Friday, my dreamwidth post reader friends! We made it through another week. And for that, I come bearing jigyu!
Or. Well. The chapter starts with Mingyu avoiding Jihoon. While the things that I use in the fic as evidence do happen (Jihoon trying to get Mingyu's attention and Mingyu ignoring him, Mingyu putting Jihoon down after Jihoon tried to sit on his back), I am also kinda making mountains out of molehills, if we're being honest. There's a version of this fic in my brain (1 of 4 variations, maybe the others will come up later) that's much more boring because it's just Mingyu and Woozi getting together at like, the start of 17TV and then being a happy couple for the rest of time. Unfortunately... this is not that fic. Cue in the evil laughter.
Though somehow this is the first time I've noticed that's actually happening in that first link??? Mingyu and Seungcheol hold hands and then repeatedly bash their chests together? And then when they stop holding hands Mingyu holds Hoshi's hands and does it to him too??? What?????? 17TV truly is the gift that keeps on giving lmao
Seungcheol kissing Jihoon is a great clip not only because, well, Seungcheol kisses Jihoon, but because Mingyu in the background just... He looks AWFUL lmao the mood in the room is all light and fun, and all of the other members are laughing (and he was laughing too, before this happened!!) but then as soon as Seungcheol gets his hands on Jihoon it's literally the epitome of "filling the room with negative energy because I don't want to be here" like he's scowling and biting the inside of his cheek and just... the fact that Hoshi straight up asks him if he wants to kiss Jihoon too makes me want to gnaw my own arm off. He's intervened a few times in 17tv episodes when Seungcheol was messing around with Jihoon and often does a lot of hovering around them when they interact but this is the first time he truly does not look happy and... oh man. Poor Gyu.
I talked about it in my last entry, but I placed the ending of Jihoon's crush on Seungcheol here specifically because of this clip. He just like... does not really care that Seungcheol is there at all lol he wants to play with Mingyu!! This shoe fight wrestling moment is just so funny because I feel like it really captures what I mean when I say that Mingyu is very open when they wrestle and wants Jihoon to pounce on him. He literally positions himself on his back on the floor and pulls Jihoon on top of him and they just giggle about it. My head is in my hands.
And then Samuel leaves Seventeen. I don't actually have an exact pin on when Samuel left; in one 17TV episode he was there, and then in the next he wasn't, and then he doesn't show up again. I don't know how trainee contracts really work either, but the reason that I made his departure unexpected is because the maknaes in the group perform that same routine that I mentioned in the last blog post at their upcoming showcase, except that instead of Samuel, Hoshi is suddenly there. There is a chance that they'd still want to use the routine, but I also kinda feel like if they'd known Samuel wouldn't be there, they'd either come up with something new or rearrange the choreo so that there's not a hole there, instead of subbing Hoshi in. But who knows? I miss writing Samuel, he's such a cute lil dude.
Seungkwan and Seokmin talking to Jihoon about their worries came from these diary entries, which both say they were written on the same day. Seungkwan says that Jihoon is "very motivational and touching", and that "although he may seem cold on the outside, his words are very heart felt", while Seokmin ends his entry with "Thank you Jihoon hyung. You made me feel much better and from now and on I will come look for you to talk with", which is really sweet.
(Soonyoung has an entry from that day too. He talks about how he danced too much and it made his butt hurt.)
AND THEN IN THE NEXT EPISODE JIHOON IS SO CLINGY. It's ridiculous, actually. Who does this??? Who sits in chairs like this???? Doyoon tries to get Mingyu up out of the chair to play with them and Jihoon gets all grumpy faced and curls his leg around Mingyu's even more and even grabs his thigh until Doyoon gives up and then he ends up just like. Fully wrapping his arms around Mingyu's neck. Jihoon please relax! Nobody's gonna take him from you!!! (And clearly they couldn't if they tried.) Later in the same episode is the infamous guitar moment! They wrestle beforehand and it's... a lot. Mingyu is way too happy to have Jihoon manhandle him onto his back and sit on him. It can be watched within the context of the episode too but I got the subs from this video. I ended up making a short thread about this 17tv episode the first time I watched it if you wanna see some more jigyu highlights lol
I'm not sure of how common knowledge of a thing it is, but I think the whole thing about Soonyoung having a difficult time in high school due to finances came out when he made that big 23mil won donation to his school in 2020? There's a whole scholarship fund at his school now that he set up for struggling students, which is really nice. I like that guy so much. Again, I don't know the timeline for stuff like this but this seemed like a good way to start bringing Jeonghan more and more into the group, and to give them a reason to break the mirrored wall because... I'm pretty sure the mirrored wall got broken.
Again, I don't have any proof, but there's a whole week of episodes where the wall is completely covered by a giant black sheet during streams. Jihoon is very noticeably sleepy during the following live stream, and I do believe that he fully fell asleep sitting up behind that sheet thing (it's very funny to see his little legs sticking out) and Mingyu wakes him up so gently :( it's so cute :(

The rest of the chapter is pretty par for the course: Mingyu kisses Jihoon's fingertips (3 times) to make Jihoon laugh, Jihoon rides around on Mingyu's back for a while (while singing girls on top by boa), Jihoon sits in Mingyu's lap and wraps Mingyu's arms around him, they wrestle, etc etc. The fact that that is par for the course is crazy. These two are crazy. Crazy!!!!!!!!!!! Fun fact I actually had to rearrange some things about their relationship trajectory because they were just being too gay. They don't know that they're in a slow burn fic. It's appalling.
This chapter is pretty light in terms of behind the scenes stuff, so that's all I have to say here! See you guys next week.
