ALTWSS Chapter 2: Sources + Links

Chapter 2! Like I said in the previous post, this one is definitely gonna be longer because we have some actual content here, instead of me just making stuff up. My beta reader said "from here on out it's pretty much avengers assemble", aka the other SVT members that we know and love joining Pledis! That also means the start of 17TV, which has become the bane of my existence. I got into SVT during lockdown and inhaled all of the content I could find in an attempt to keep myself sane, so I've watched all of the episodes, and while it's all very embarrassing, it's made me immune to anything cringey that SVT does. I think it made me invincible.

More members are joining! I got the member order and which month the members joined in from this video, which I think I already linked 3 times in the last post, but I used it a lot, so it bears repeating. The "visuals of Psy, but talent of Park Hyoshin" thing is unfortunately a rumor that was going around about Seungkwan before he joined, which Mingyu and Seungkwan talk about in this episode of Happy Together, where they each give their side of what happened when Seungkwan was cast and joined the company. (Though they were also told that he's incredibly talented and that they all should be nervous, damn right) And as it turned out, they all (Mingyu insists that it was all of the trainees) mistook Seungkwan for his own father when he came into the building. Why do SVT keep thinking that young teenagers are adult men???? What is happening here.

(Also, fun side note, apparently the rumor around for Mingyu was that the CEO said "it was about time we had a handsome trainee" LMAO)

And TEMPEST is created! There are a few member profiles and stuff out there about the temporary group, but now that there's an actual boy group called Tempest, the info has gotten harder to find. I didn't really find much info about the boys in it that weren't Jihoon, Doyoon, and Seungcheol, but I also didn't really look for it, either; they're not public figures, so it isn't any of my business. But that is why they don't actually appear in the fic very much, despite being slated to debut in a group along side the main character.

The appearance of baby SVT is something I really, really love about the Face MV. They are SO cute in it, and watching them try to act tough just kills me motorcycle gang leader choi seungcheol anyone? I don't know why Yoosang wasn't in the video (or maybe he is and i missed him? i dunno) so I just made up that he was sick. The kids are also in Hello Venus's Venus MV, and there are some cute shots of them in the MV's behind the scenes video too (Jihoon loses his balance and falls through a door at one point)

Now, Beomju. Bumzu. I call Bumzu "Beomju" throughout this fic because when Jihoon meets him, the name "Bumzu" doesn't exist yet. Bumzu debuted under PJR Entertainment (a subsidiary of Pledis) in 2011, and went by Nusoul (here's his debut mv). Then he dropped that name and went by "Kye Bum Zu" for a bit before finally just going by "Bumzu" in late 2013. I didn't want to have to do an awkward switch around of his name in the narration, so I just opted for Beomju the whole time. Once Bumzu is the name that he uses full time, the SVT members call him that in dialogue, like they do now. The same thing happens with Vernon (called Hansol in narration through the entirety of the fic, but referred to Vernon in dialogue when it's a name that starts being used) and, unfortunately, Joshua too. He's Jisoo the whole time. Sorry.

17TV had 3 teaser videos (1, 2, 3) which are all still up on the official SVT youtube channel, despite the first one being kinda creepy when you remember how young the boys were. The 17TV "Christmas Event" is also for some reason on the channel in full (part 1, part 2) Aside from showing off Mingyu's willingness to cheat to be on the same team as Jihoon, nothing too interesting happens (though Mingyu's gay little response to Jihoon calling his name is something that I hold very near and dear to my heart). The official start to 17TV had considerably less creepy teasers (1, 2), and you can watch episode 1 here if you have any interest. The main jigyu moment I see floating around twt is the bit with the yakult drink (I got the dialogue for it from this video), but I can't get over Jihoon's "I called you because I missed you", because this is the first time we see him using that phrase with Mingyu on camera, but he does it more than once and it ALWAYS works.

The "silly picture" that Mingyu and Jihoon take to advertise ep 5 of 17TV is this:

 

which I think is a parody of a scene from a romantic Kdrama? The episode can be watched in full here (also still on the official channel), and I got the dialogue for the scenes from this video, like the smaller peppers quip and the cactus face stuff, though I made up what was written inside the paper airplane. This is just a personal aside, but I kind of think that "Jihoon considered writing a note in return just to call Mingyu a cactus face, but decided he’d get his revenge some other way, going back to crafting." might be the single funniest out of context sentence that I've ever written in a fic. What does that even mean. What am I talking about.

And that's it! The only content not mentioned that happens during this time (aside from any kind of write up about 17TV episodes 2-4, I kind of wanted to just write the first one to explain the format and then only mention episodes when they're relevant) is a video called "Talent Donation Activity" where baby SVT volunteer at an event raising money for a cancer center! Jihoon, Soonyoung, Seungkwan, Chan, Mingyu, and Hansol are all in it, and it's pretty cute. Chapter 3 will be up next Friday, so I'll see you all then! I'm going to try to post these chapters at around 3pm EST on Fridays, and while I WILL stick to the day of the week, the time... might be tough lol.
